Target audience

Staff, private, & resident physicians specializing in obstetrics, pediatrics, or family practice; staff nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners, & physician assistants who provide care to NICU patients and/or postpartum patients; lactation counselors, doulas, medical students, nursing students, and any other health care professional who cares for the mother/baby unit.

 

 

Objectives

After this presentation, the attendee will be able to:

  1. Impact patient outcomes by identifying ways to work with premature babies and their mothers to encourage exclusive breast milk feeds via more effectively communicating with patients and anticipating barriers that may adversely impact desired outcomes if not addressed.
  2. Increase physician recognition about the problems with giving babies routine bottles especially in the immediate neonatal period and discuss other means of supplementation that is compatible with breastfeeding.
  3. Gain insight into the various mechanisms which may contribute to colic in the breastfed baby, including allergy, GERD, and excess milk supply.

CME credit designation is pending approval.

The event has been approved for 4 CE credits and 3 CERP credits, which will be provided by San Joaquin/Sierra, Region 5 of the Regional Perinatal Programs of California.

**Parking will not be available in the UCSF lot however parking will be available in the parking structure located directly north of (behind) the East Medical Plaza building on Kashian Lane (formerly Divisadero Street.) You will enter at the Patient Parking Entrance on Wayte Street. Parking in this structure requires ticket validation which will be done at the event. Please make sure to bring your ticket into the event so you can receive validation.
